Books and Educational Resources
At EarAware, we believe that protecting hearing starts with understanding why it matters. Hearing is not just about sound—it’s about communication, learning, connection, safety, and quality of life. Because hearing damage is often permanent, education and prevention must start early and continue throughout life.
That’s why early exposure and lifelong learning are central to the EarAware mission. We use storytelling and science together to help children and adults understand how hearing works, why it’s fragile, and how simple choices can protect it for a lifetime.
Children’s Books
Welcome to Cochlea-by-the-Sea — a magical town where music comes alive as the waves roll in.
At its heart lies a spiral harbor, shaped like a seashell’s swirl.
Here, the waves don’t just crash — they play the piano keys of your cochlea!
Surfers ride shimmering sound waves that fill the town with beautiful melodies. Fun, safe surfing waves are less than 85 decibels high. But when roaring storms and towering tsunami waves greater than 100 decibels come crashing in, the harmony of the harbor is in danger.
That’s when our brave hero — Submarine-85 — dives into action!
Join Sub-85 as he patrols the deep to keep the music alive, and discover why keeping it below 85 dB keeps your ears alive!
The second children’s book expands the world of Cochlea-by-the-Sea, blending music, curiosity, and science. Through Jackson’s journey, young readers explore how the ear works, how sound becomes music, and how every part of the ear plays a role in the body’s own hidden symphony. It builds naturally on the lessons of Sub-85, helping children deepen their understanding as they grow.
In addition to our children’s books, we have written an adult-focused book that explains the EarAware campaign, the science of hearing loss, and the often-overlooked risks of everyday noise exposure. This book is designed for parents, educators, musicians, professionals, and anyone who wants to make informed decisions about protecting their hearing—and the hearing of those they care about.
Together, these books form the educational backbone of EarAware:
raising awareness early, reinforcing it often, and empowering people of all ages to protect one of their most vital senses.
